Excerpt:

"The sky is prussian blue, no, indigo

with just the merest hint of ultramar.

I am not painting it, so what care I?

And yet, I do care, deeply, as if life

depended on my skill to mix that blue.

Not my life only—your life, damn it!—our

whole planetary life:

the life of beetle, and ichneumon fly

plankton, crustacean, elk and polar bear

the delicate veined leaf

that blows against an enigmatic sky."
